The “Chinese Bridge” – Chinese Proficiency Competition for foreign students is a large-scale international contest sponsored by Hanban in China. The competition for high school students was first launched in 2008.

The aim of this competition is to stimulate the interest of youths in learning and increasing their understanding of Chinese language and culture. It becomes an important platform for international students to show their enthusiasm and help young people in the world to better communicate with each other.

Preliminaries are held in each respective participating foreign country, where students are assessed in the following skills: knowledge of China, a Chinese cultural performance and prepared speeches in Mandarin. The winners of each respective country’s preliminary round then go to China for an International semi-final and final.

Pretoria Chinese School has been participating in this competition since 2008 and has achieved outstanding results.
