AP Mathematics does not offer any APS points and as a result, will not help the learner gain access to university. It is however evident that the concepts and skills that learners acquire from studying this optional subject, helps them considerably in any mathematically-related course at tertiary level. Exposure to higher order cognitive processes results in a sound and more profound understanding of mathematics as a subject. Learners need to be proficient in Core Mathematics in order to cope with the demands of AP Mathematics, and hence a grade of at least 80% at Grade 9 level is needed to study AP Mathematics in the FET phase. AP Mathematics will be taught after school hours for approximately 2 hours a week with at least 4 hours of homework assigned each week.
As this is an additional subject, additional fees will be charged for those who choose to take AP Mathematics.
