During their college years, a young person prepares for adulthood. At the Pretoria Chinese School, we provide a holistic and nurturing environment which will enable this student to make the successful transition.

To accomplish this, we have several areas of focus:

We emphasise the development of excellent study methods and the values of hard work and dedication. We place special emphasis on the selection of the correct subjects for the FET phase using criteria required by international tertiary institutions. We actively prepare our students for further studies both in South Africa and across the globe using the internationally benchmarked Independent Examination Board as our curriculum.

Although the Pretoria Chinese school does not place an excessive focus on sport, we believe that a healthy body is necessary for the developing teenage body. All students are encouraged to participate in sports or other physical activities.

Emotional Intelligence:
We emphasise the development of emotional intelligence as this has been found to have a profound effect on the success of young adults after they leave school. In addition to a tailored Life Orientation programme, we offer camps, leadership training, mentorship, and discussions on all aspects in this regard.

Critical Thinking:
All our subjects focus on the higher-order-thinking aspects, not just the content, and our teachers encourage and facilitate discussions between students where they can debate and challenge each other’s perspectives. We strive to develop critical thinkers and independent young people who can think for themselves and stand their ground when their opinions are challenged. Most importantly, our students can make good decisions in a crisis, are flexible and adaptable, and can form their own opinions based on sound logic.

Additional Skills:
We have instituted a Life Skills programme targeting those skills that young adults will require when they leave home. These skills range from basic sewing, home maintenance, financial planning, and car maintenance.

School Curriculum

We help you make important Subject Choices!

Co-Curricular Programme

We encourage students to be active members of the school by participating in a variety of co-curricular activities. A full programme of the term’s cultural and sporting activities will be issued at the commencement of each term on d6 Connect. Students are encouraged to select at least one sport and one cultural activity per term.

Co-Curricular activities are included in the tuition fee. An essential component of the programme is the support lessons that are provided by teachers to students whom they invite to lessons in order to assist them to improve their performance in these subjects.

Other specialised activities are offered at an additional cost which is payable to the service provider. We offer you the convenience of these services at school, but it must be remembered that school functions and activities will take precedence over these “external” activities. As such, venues for these activities may change from time to time.

Bursary Reward Plan for Grade 8 Students

Pretoria Chinese School is dedicated to promoting academic excellence and leadership by providing opportunities for students to achieve their educational goals. As part of this commitment, we offer academic bursaries to Grade 7 students who are applying to study for Grade 8 at our school.

The bursary will include provision for Leadership Bursaries for students attending JEC from Pretoria Chinese School. These bursaries will be awarded to students who demonstrate exceptional leadership skills in their academic work and extracurricular activities. The number and value of the bursaries will be determined by the school administration.
